Familia HOPE Orphanage: East Timor

Target Amount:
$5000.00
Current Total:
$0.00

In 2004, Familia HOPE Orphanage became the home of 24 children in a remote area of East Timor, one of the world’s poorest countries. Most of the children lost their parents in horrific massacres in 1999, which followed the successful vote for independence from foreign occupation. There is no adoption in East Timor, and the children--now 31--live together as a family, with the older ones looking after the younger ones. While the children’s most basic needs are provided for, they live in poverty. The orphanage depends on donations to operate. This micro-grant will fund the badly  needed  renovation of the children’s toilet/shower facility and will  purchase beds, mattresses and bedding for the girl's and boy's  dormitories
